Car Battery in Brunei

New car batteries held in stock at our Gadong counter and fitted on the spot, so a car that would not start this morning is usually not a two-day problem. Nagoya and Bosch are what we carry most of. Not sure the battery is even the fault? Bring it in for a free check first.

Is it the battery?

What A Dying Battery Actually Looks Like

A battery rarely dies without warning. It usually spends a week or two telling you, and most people read the signs as something else. If any of this sounds like your car, it is worth getting the battery checked before it strands you somewhere inconvenient.

🐤

Slow, laboured cranking

The engine turns over noticeably slower than it used to before it catches, especially first thing in the morning. This is the most common early sign and the easiest one to ignore.

Worse after the car has sat overnight, better once it has been driven.

🔈

Click, but no start

You turn the key and get a rapid clicking or a single hard click with nothing after it. There is enough charge left to work the solenoid and not enough to turn the engine.

Often the point at which people call for a jump start.

💡

Dim lights and weak electrics

Headlights that dim at idle and brighten when you rev, a dashboard that flickers when the aircon kicks in, or power windows that crawl.

Can also point at the charging system rather than the battery. A check tells you which.

⚠️

Battery warning light

The battery symbol on the dash usually means the charging circuit, not simply a flat battery. Driving on it risks being stranded once the remaining charge is used up.

Worth getting looked at the same day rather than the same week.

🕑

It is simply old

If you cannot remember when the battery was last changed, that is usually an answer in itself. Heat shortens battery life, and Brunei supplies plenty of heat.

Bring it in and we will tell you where it stands.

🔌

It keeps going flat

A battery that needs jump starting more than once is either at the end of its life or being drained by something else on the car. Replacing it blindly does not fix the second case.

We check the battery and the charging side before recommending anything.

What we stock

Batteries On The Shelf, Not On Order

We have run the parts counter here since 1978, and batteries are one of the lines we keep depth in rather than ordering per customer. That is the whole point — a flat battery is an inconvenience today, not next week.

01

Nagoya

One of the two brands we carry most of, covering the common Japanese, Korean and Malaysian models on Brunei roads.

02

Bosch

The other main line we hold, and the one people usually ask for by name on Continental cars and higher-draw vehicles.

03

Six months warranty

New batteries bought from us come with a six month warranty. Keep your receipt and bring the car back if anything goes wrong inside that window.

04

Fitted while you wait

Supply and fitting happen on the same premises. You are not buying a battery here and then finding somewhere else to put it in.

If your car takes something we do not have on the shelf, tell us the make, model and year on WhatsApp and we will say so honestly rather than sell you a battery that nearly fits.

How it works

Getting A Battery Sorted

Message the parts counter

Send your car make, model and year, and what the car is doing. A photo of the old battery label helps us match it exactly.

We confirm fit and stock

We tell you which battery your car takes, whether it is on the shelf, and what it costs, before you drive over.

Bring the car to Gadong

Come to Spg. 27, Jln. Gadong, Menglait during opening hours. We fit it on the spot and you drive away on the new battery.

One thing worth being straight about: we do not run a callout or roadside service. The car needs to come to us. If it will not start where it is, arrange a jump or a tow to Gadong and we will take it from there.

Why they fail early here

Heat Is Harder On Batteries Than Cold

Batteries are often thought of as a cold-climate problem, because cold is when a weak one finally refuses to start. The damage itself is mostly done by heat, which is why battery life in Brunei tends to run shorter than the numbers printed on the box.

01

Constant high temperatures

Sustained heat under the bonnet accelerates the internal wear that eventually leaves a battery unable to hold charge.

02

Aircon on every trip

The aircon runs from the moment you set off, all year. That is a steady electrical load the battery and alternator carry on every journey.

03

Short stop-start journeys

Lots of short trips around Gadong and Bandar never give the charging system a long enough run to fully replace what starting the car used.

04

Cars left standing

A vehicle parked for weeks slowly self-discharges. Second cars and rarely-used vehicles are the ones that surprise people.

None of this means a battery is a consumable you should be replacing constantly. It means a free check once you are a few years in is worth more than a guess.

Common questions

Before You Come In

How much is a car battery in Brunei?
It depends on the size and type your car takes — a small hatchback and a diesel pickup are not the same battery or the same price. Send us your make, model and year on WhatsApp and we will give you the figure before you drive over, rather than after.
Is the battery check really free?
Yes. Bring the car to the counter at Gadong during opening hours and we will check the battery for you at no charge. There is no obligation to buy one afterwards. If the battery is fine we will tell you it is fine.
What warranty do I get on a new battery?
Six months. Keep your receipt, and if something goes wrong within that period bring the car and the battery back to us at Gadong.
Which battery brands do you carry?
Nagoya and Bosch are our two main lines and cover most of what people drive here. Tell us your car and we will confirm which one fits it and whether it is currently on the shelf.
Can you come to me? My car will not start.
No — we do not run a callout or roadside service, and we would rather say that plainly than have you waiting on a van that is not coming. Arrange a jump start or a tow to Spg. 27, Jln. Gadong, Menglait, and we will handle it from there while you wait.
Do I need an appointment?
You can drive in during opening hours. Messaging ahead is still worth doing, because we can confirm your battery is in stock before you make the trip.
How long does fitting take?
A battery change is one of the quicker jobs we do and is normally done while you wait, provided the car is with us during opening hours. If your car turns out to need more than a battery, we will tell you before starting anything.
What if it turns out to be the alternator, not the battery?
That happens, and it is exactly why the check is worth doing before you buy. A failing alternator will flatten a brand new battery just as quickly as the old one. If that is what we find, our workshop is on the same premises and fits complete alternator and starter assemblies from our own stock.
Can I buy the battery and fit it myself?
Yes, you are welcome to buy over the counter and take it away. Message the parts number and we will have it ready for you.
